Participations of Baghdad Women's Association cadre

 

 
 

    On July 5, 2008, a member of the Association contributed in the national conference that organized by( "Country of Peace" Movement and the Organization of Iraqi Forum ) in Basra Governorate – Almarbid Hotel under the slogan "women participation ensuring security and peace", as there were active participation of formal and informal sides. The conference yielded discussions on violence against women, women and elections, constitutional amendments, and women in the media, also it was presented in the conference a documentary film entitled, (screams silently),that was produced by Baghdad Women's Association within its activities of the project raising the awareness for combating violence against women.

    On July 11, 2008 a member of the Association participated, for four days, in a workshop held by Iraqi Civic Education Group by the support of National Endowment for Democracy (NED) for the project (Let us Stand Together) to train activists of civil society organizations in the fields of advocacy and teamwork .

    On July 19, 2008 a member of the Association participated in the symposium, which was held by "the Gathering All of Us Iraq" in Baghdad - Babylon Hotel. The symposium was about the Iraqi-American Convention and its political, economic, security, and legal consequences, as the aim of the symposium was acquainted the attendees with the importance of knowing the consequences of this Convention and its negatives and positives.

 

    On July 4, 2008 a representative of the Association participated in the seminar that was held by Iraqi Civic Awareness Group in the Iraqi Oil Cultural Centre, to prepare trainers in the field of human rights. In the light of the discussion of the seminar, it was agreed upon a mechanism for the work of the advocacy campaign after raising number of questions by the participants, such as the question of elections and the awareness and the education about them, and also about creating simple and easy way to their access to the public.

 

    On June 28, 2008, at the Headquarters of Iraqi Women Network, a member of the Association participated in one-day training workshop, entitled "Strategic Planning and Disseminating of Non-violence Awareness", that was held by Almasala Centre for developing Human Resources in collaboration with Nova Organization from Spain, and the organization Bridge to Italy.

    From 19-21 June, 2008 representative from Baghdad Women's Association participated in the training workshop that held in Oil Cultural center, as the title of the workshop was "renovating". The workshop held according to the cooperation between Iraqi Media Women Center and Al-Mada Foundation for media, culture and arts at the aim of developing the capacity of Iraqi media.

 

    From 16-19 June, 2008 representative of Baghdad women's Association participated in the training session "conflict resolution" that organized by National Democratic Institute, NDI, in Erbil.

 

    From 14-18 June, 2008, in Mansour Meliá Hotel, a representative of Baghdad Women's Association participated in the project "National Plan for Electoral Education", which was organized by the Secretariat of Electoral Education Forum.

 

    On June 14, 2008, the president of Baghdad women's Association participated in a meeting for Women Organization in the Headquarters of "Culture for All" society in Baghdad. The discussions were about activating women cultural movement. The meeting attended by number of media men and others interested in women affairs.

 

     On 5 June, 2008 two members of Baghdad Women's Association Participated in a meeting held in the Headquarters of Iraqi Women Network about role of civil society organizations in national reconciliation, in order to discuss the negative issues affecting the community and developing the mechanisms and the suggestions to address these negative points and presenting them to the specialists in the meeting that will be held in (Sando - Sweden), in order to find possible means to solve them. The meeting attended by number of significant and affective political and parliamentarian personalities, in addition to representatives of civil society organizations.

 

    Aiming at developing and empowering skills of women and their participation in the political process and extending bridges of cooperation between civil society organizations and government institutions and others, one of the members of Baghdad Women's Association participated in the program of empowering women starting from February until July 2008. This program conducted by National Democratic Institute (NDI) in Erbil, as it included series of courses on topics (conflict resolution and negotiation - building women's leadership capacities - how to talk with donors - advocacy campaigns - pressure and influence - meetings with women activists from outside of Iraq).

 

 

 
 

   On May 27,2008 a representative of Baghdad Women's Association Participated in the second periodic meeting of civil society organizations that are receiving grants from National Endowment for Democracy (NED). The objective of the meeting was to discuss the implementation of the projects, defining the obstacles, how to avoid these obstacles and the commitment of these organizations towards the (NED).

 

 

 
 

     On 14-15 May 2008, one of the members of Baghdad Women's Association participated in a Workshop titled "civil society activists are the strongest credit to support women participation in political life". The workshop held in Al-Jadiriyah Corner Hotel- Baghdad. The workshop was attended by 25 women activists from civil society organizations and university students, with the aim of training them on the possibility of working as one team which is the basis of the success in any institution.

 

 
 

      On April 30, 2008, a representative from Baghdad Women's Association participated in a four-day workshop titled "defending human rights". The workshop held in Arab Palace Hotel with the support and the supervision of Civic Education Team. The workshops targeted (25) persons from human rights activists, civil society organizations, As well as academic personalities from Media men and university professors, and staff of governmental institutions, in order to identify the concepts of defending, how to prepare for the campaign, promoting acquaintance between the participants from various organizations to promote collective action.

 

 
 

     On April 28, 2008, one of the members of Baghdad Women's Association attended, in the headquarters of the Iraqi Women Network - Baghdad, a meeting held by one of NED advisors for middle region in Iraq. The meeting attended by (15) organization supported by National Endowment for Democracy. The goal of the meeting was developing ways of working, putting the mechanism of cooperation between organizations supported by National Endowment for Democracy, building strong organizations, and creation of specialist cadres within the organizations.

 

 
 

     On April 14, 2008, In the presence of (20) women from different women association, one of the members of Baghdad Women's Association participated in a workshop titled "convention of eliminating all forms of discrimination against women" held by Al-Rafidain Women's Coalition. The aim of the workshop was raising the awareness about CEDAW Convention, defining the positive laws that are incompatible with the Convention, identification of unjust laws against women, laws that Iraq reserved against and the kind of these reservations, in addition to women rights in Iraq and the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women.

 

 

 

     Members of Baghdad Women's Association participated in the General Conference of Iraqi Women Network, which was held in Baghdad during 26-27 January 2008 under the title: " Scream of Iraqi Women" Stop Humanitarian Disaster ", by the support of United Nations Fund for Women (UNIFEM) and organized by Iraqi Al-Amal Association. The conference marked a significant and active participation of official, non-official and international sides, including many members and advisors of the parliament, representatives of the Presidency of Republic and the Cabinet, representatives of United Nations and civil society organizations.... in order to address the worsening crisis suffered by people over the past five years within a comprehensive national strategy. During the conference introduced songs and theatrical performances, documentary films, photographs and field reports, audio recordings and live testimonies of immigrants and battered women.

 

 

  Since July 2007 until April 2009, one of the members of the association was involving in the program of activating civil society initiatives by the support of National Democratic Institute (NDI) in Erbil. The program includes several courses designed to train the trainers on activating civil society initiatives.
