Prevention,
Monitoring and reporting on Gender based violence
On July 19, 2010 Baghdad Women’s Association started the
implementation of its project (prevention, monitoring and
reporting on Gender based Violence). The first activity of this
project “the free drawing” was implemented at Al-Karama female
secondary school in Al-Mashtal Neighborhood / 9 Nisan district, as
22 female and male students participated in this activity. At the
beginning, the representative of the Association, Samira Khalaf,
acquainted the participants with the project and its objectives
and she gave them an idea about gender based violence and its
effects on the society, and she gave them examples related to the
reality of Iraqi society. The representative of the Association
noted that the Association seeks through this project to change
the perception and the attitude of the society regarding the
violence against women and children, especially in the education
field. The Association encourages the women to claim their right
in continuing their education as the men. As well as, the
Association attempts to eliminate all the constraints that impeded
women from continuing their education.After that, the school
director, Khalida Joma, deliver a brief speech urged in it the
students not to give up their rights in education and praised the
role of such projects that targeted young students due to the
importance of their role in the creation of a society that aware
of all their rights and duties not only in education field but in
all fields, as it would be important in determining the future of
the Iraqi society.
Bridges
Within the activities of the project “Bridges” and with the
support of the Swedish Organization Women for Women KTK, Baghdad
Women’s Association organized on Saturday May 29, 2010 its first
seminar in order to develop a national agenda to identify the
needs of the society, in general, and the needs of women, in
particular. The seminar was attended by 20 women and activists of
(political parties, civil society organizations, Baghdad
Provincial Council, municipal councils and ministries).The president of Baghdad Women’s Association started the seminar
by welcoming the attendees, then moved to acquainting the
participants with the program, saying: The project “Bridges”
considers a real initiative for the independent civic activists
and the activists of the political parties to formulate a common
national agenda and strategies of action, in order to start,
together, executing a plan for training a generation of female and
male youth on the civic value system after preparing them to
execute this task. Also she referred to the goal of this program
that promotes the creation of national common denominators amongst
the independent civic activists and the activists of the political
parties and the ministries, in addition to discussing the common
themes, which serve the youth generation and enable them to grow
up without discrimination and allow them to build the bonds of
peace and to contribute to build the homeland through this agenda.
International
Women's Day under the slogan "Every thing we do for you is less
than what you deserve"
Within the activities of Baghdad Women's Association on the
occasion of International Women's Day, and with the support of
United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA, and under the slogan "Every
thing we do for you is less than what you deserve", Baghdad
Women's Association celebrated the honoring of a number of the
members of Baghdad Provincial Council and the municipal councils,
who were pioneers in this area to serve the Iraqi women, and who
have had a role in serving their communities in the neighborhoods
that they represent in Baghdad. The event was held at the Hall of
Oil Cultural Center on March 17, 2010.
Also, The Association arranged on March 18, 2010 under the slogan
"Every thing we do for you is less than what you deserve", and
with the support of United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA, an
honoring ceremony for three women who are leaders in the women's
movement and who submit great services to the Iraqi woman. Those
women are: Hana Edwar - Secretary General of Iraqi al- Amal
Association, Sundus Abbas- Director of women Leadership Institute,
and Parween Mohammed Amin- Deputy Director General in the
Department of non-governmental organizations.
-Empowering
the capacities of civil society activists in acquisition of
techniques for resolving and managing conflicts
Within the programs of Baghdad Women's Association in 2009-2010,
BWA started to implement the project "Empowering the capacities of
civil society activists in acquisition of techniques for resolving
and managing conflicts", and this is one of its activities in
supporting the culture of non-violence and laying the foundations
of peace among the youths.The first training workshop was held on
January 19-20 2010, at the Meeting Hall in Oil Cultural Center.
The number of the participants in this workshop was 42 female and
male youth. The second one was in February 13-14, 2010 at the
meeting hall of Oil Cultural Center, its. was attended by 25
female .While implemented the third workshop on March 20_21 2010,
2010 at the meeting hall in Oil Cultural center.the workshop was
attended by 33 female and male youth.and also Implemented the
fourth workshop on April 10-11 2010,. This workshop was
attended by 41 female and male youth.at the last implemented the
fifth workshop on may 8-9 2010,this workshop was attended by20
female and male youth. The project aimed at
activists of civil society organizations from different parts of
the city of Baghdad, which included all "New Baghdad, Alsadir
City, Jamila neighborhood, Alqahira neighborhood, Akarrada
District, Anasirneighborhood, Aldora, Alshurta Alkhamisa,
Albaladyat, Alfudhaliya, andAlaedmia", This has covered the media
program of workshops, which in order to promote the culture of
tolerance and conflict resolution through the dialogue and the
understanding to enable them playing a role in changing the
society for the better through acquainting them with the causes of
conflict and analyzing its stages and how to deal with it through
the logic and civilized dialogue and solving the problems without
using violence. TheAssociation will implement several workshops
that focus on acquainting theyouths with the culture of peace so
as to be guidance for them in peace-building and disseminating its
culture in all conflict areas.
Within the programs of Baghdad Women's Association in 2009-2010
and with the support of Global Fund for Women, Baghdad Women's
Association implemented its project "empowering women financially
and socially to enable them increasing the income of their
families". The project included the implementation of two training
workshop on January 9-10, 2010 in the presence of 5 women in the
first phase of the project. The target group of the project
includes 10 women, who will be given small grants and will be
trained to manage their small businesses. The Association started
the preparatory period of the project on October 2009 which lasted
three months in order to select the target group, as the project
will continue for a period of one year.
